On Top of the World

We left Dawson City this morning and the road disappeared into the Yukon River.  The only way to go forward was to drive onto a ferry and have them transport you across the river.  We then started to climb higher and higher up the mountain.  We were on the 65 mile "Top of the World Highway".  Much of the road was unpaved, with winding bends and little to no shoulder, but it sure was beautiful driving across the top of the mountains and overlooking the valleys.  Along the way we were met by a US Customs agent that welcomed us into Alaska.  We have never had an issue crossing over an international border with the camper.  His only question was if we had any firearms, which we did not. As we continued driving we came to Chicken, Alaska.  It is a pretty small town with no electricity, no phones, no central plumbing, and a population of between 17 and 37.  They do get mail by plane every Tuesday and Friday.  About another 1-1/2 hours and we met back up with the Alaska Highway in Tok, Alaska.  Tonight we are camping at the end of the Alaska Highway in Delta Junction.

  1. Motorcycle shipping is one of the most popular ways for people to get their motorcycles into their desired destinations. It is a good way of saving on transportation fees.

  2. If you are one of the thousands of people who have ever considered ship car across country, you are not alone. It is a fact that most people who drive cars do not want to be in the middle of a long road.
